NE 271017 'Little Titan'

NE 271017 is a ¼ scale replica of a North Eastern Railways Steam Crane. It was built by Ernie Cheeseman of Peterlee, County Durham. The crane was named ‘Little Titan’ at Darlington by the Rt Hon William Whitelaw after opening the celebrations marking the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway 15th August – 13th September 1975. The train, also including a match wagon, well wagon, box van, open wagon, plate wagon and guard’s van is quoted as representing 8 years, or 10,000 hours of work.

‘Little Titan’ was built purely for demonstrations; however it is capable of lifting up to 1 ton. The crane alone consists of over 3500 separate parts which are held together by just under 2000 bolts. There are 127 grease nipples and over 60 oil cups!
