Duffield Bank Railway 'Effie'

This locomotive is a replica of one of the world's first 15 inch gauge locomotives, built by Sir Arthur Heywood for his private Duffield Bank Railway in 1875. She was commissioned in 1997 with Great Northern Steam Company Limited and she was finished in September 1999. She steamed in Middlesbrough for the first time in September 1999 and moved to Darlington for early October to run on a three rail system at Darlington Railway Preservation Society 20" track with a third rail down the middle. The locomotive is a well tank, meaning that all water is held in a tank, underneath the boiler between the frames. Also, like all Heywood engines, she has a Marine Boiler where, unlike a conventional boiler, the firebox is integral to the Boiler Barrel itself. During her time at Cleethorpes, she has also visited other railways, including The The Kirklees Light railway, The Sherwood Forest Railway and The Saltburn Railway.
