'Battison'

This locomotive was built by Stanley Battison, however opinion varies on whether it was built in 1955 or 1958, as no definitive record exists, there is also no information as to why it was built, as there was no order from a customer. It has been suggested that it was built after Mr Battison had retired, in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire, rather than at his original workshop in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Very little is known about the loco, however it was at Steamtown Carnforth by 1984, and was purchased by Austin Moss in 1988 who moved it to the Lakeside Miniature Railway in Southport where he began restoration. It then spent time in Mr Moss' back garden, before moving to his new railway, the Windmill Farm Railway. CCLR performed a locomotive swap, which saw Mr Moss obtain one of the CCLR's rebuilt Severn Lamb locos in exchange for Battison. On arrival at Cleethorpes, the locomotive was restored to running condition, and hauled what was believed to be its first passenger carrying train, over 40 years after it was built! This locomotive carries William Stroudly's 'Improved Engine Green' livery (which is actually an orange/umber colour!) With its name proudly displayed on its side tanks.
